Chartering at HYC
HYC is lucky enough to have five J80 keelboats and one Squib available for members to charter. HYC boat charter for racing or day sailing is subject to rules and regulations, and our sailing team is happy to walk you through the process! See below for a general guide to chartering a boat with HYC.
J80/Squib Charter – Regular Day Charter
Step 1. Become an approved skipper by completing the Keelboat Charter Application form. This is available upon request from [email protected]
Step 2. Once your application is approved, you’ll need to do a familiarization session to be showed all the nuances with the boats, e.g. engine etc.
Step 3. Inform the sailing team of any particular days/times you would like to take a club J80. Please give us as much notice as possible. We will need at least 48 hours notice.
Step 4. The sailing team will provide you with a link to pay the charter fee and the damage deposit. They will also provide you with a form to fill out prior to the charter. This will need to be returned to the sailing team before the charter.
J80/Squib Charter – Series Charter
Step 1. Become an approved race skipper by completing the Keelboat Charter Application form. This is available upon request from [email protected]
Step 2. Once your application is approved, you’ll need to do a familiarization session to be showed all the nuances with the boats, e.g. engine etc.
Step 3. Secure your charter by paying your Charter Fee and damage deposit using the provided link.
Step 4. Before the event, you will need to be present for a full gear inspection. This is to ensure that all the gear provided is in full working order.
Step 5. At the end of the event, there will be a full inspection of all the equipment. Once the inspection has been passed, damage deposits will be returned.
