Non-Spinnaker
There is the obvious as to why you will enjoy sailing in the Non Spinnaker fleet…. No wipe outs, no chinese gybes and no death roles that you experience with those up front colourful sails called spinnakers.
Some people say (rumour has it) that the Non Spinnaker fleet is just for sailors of an older generation who don’t want to race seriously anymore and drink Gin and Tonics on the downwind legs. The later might be true but don’t be fooled. Once you have been on the start line of the Non Spinnaker fleet you will realise that the first statement is not true either.
Non Spinnaker sailing is not dull or boring all be it slightly easier going. The start lines and mark roundings can be loud and hairy with even the odd bump or two.
Having said that it’s a great place to learn the ins and outs of racing without the white knuckle rides. The fleet is very encouraging to new blood and you will always find someone on board to explain what’s going on and what to expect and what to do.
