Howth Yacht Club joined forces with our friends at Sailors For The Sea in 2014. Since then, we have made as many regattas as possible cleaner.
Plastic pollution, habitat destruction and depletion of marine life are just a few of the issues that sailors witness firsthand. At Sailors for the Sea Powered by Oceana, they unite sailors and boaters to take a stand for all oceans and waterways.
For the 2023 ICRA Nationals, we will try to achieve the Gold standard and that means we all need to make an effort.
Event organizers are placing a heavy emphasis on ditching single-use water bottles.
- We will not have single-use plastics.
- We will make sure our boat engines are turned off when we are not moving.
- We will walk or cycle and share cars to and from the event every day.
- Plastic-Free Dinnerware in the restaurant areas
- Encourage use of Reusable Bags
- Responsibly sourced prizes
- Providing responsibly sourced meals
- Vegetarian availability
- A "Green Team" on site
- Choice of waste bins
- Food waste management
- Paperless event management
- Eco-Smart Race Management
- Blue Flag Marina standard toxins management
- Encouraging "green boating" practices
These small little things and others will combine to create one big result.
NB: There is a water fountain near the entrance and tap water is freely available from the bar.
