Race School Level 2
Level 2 offers a great opportunity for you to learn loads and become more valuable as a Crew. Level 2 sailors will really start to enjoy the excitement of crewing in a boat that enjoys racing and wants to get the best possible performace from the boat. Much of this training will take place in our Race School J80's with our team of instructors and volunteers who are skilled in the various areas. Our Sailing Development Officer, Matthew Cotter will keep track of your progress. This level will help you improve your skills in the following areas.

- Car positions
- Halyard tensions
- Use backstay
- Sail shape
- Traveller position
- Heel angles
- Crew deck positions…boat overall trim
- Instruments
- Speed...VMG…Wind angles
- Wind shifts
- Starts
- Mark rounding
Crew position should be nearly 100% sorted by this level.
“Homework” will be given with prescribed reading and visual material.
These are very short water sessions when you take out the shore debrief.
In Levels 1 + 2 RS will get you race night “One Off” guest slots to see HYC cruiser and One Design in action.
