Howth sailors at Ulster Optimist Championships
Beautiful weather greeted all the HYC sailors who travelled to the Ulsters in Skerries last weekend. Unfortunately although everybody got on the water, no racing took place on day one due to flat calm conditions. Day 2 was much more exciting with a light breeze 8 – 10 knots. The race committee managed to get in 3 races. Howth was well represented with Daniel Hopkins winning the 2nd race and finishing 3rd overall in the senior fleet. Max Kavanagh won the senior silver fleet and Jack McMahon came 2nd Silver. In the Junior fleet Jamie McMahon had a great event and never finished outside the top 3. He won the last race and was the overall winner of the Junior fleet. In the Regatta Fleet Aoife McMahon came 4th overall. There were lots of other Howth sailors at the event and special mention has to go to Dylan O’Grady who won the fair sailing award. Well done to Tara Flood who was the HYC coach.
