At the Irish Cruising Club’s Annual General Meeting on Friday night, the trophy for special service and achievement went to HYC’s Kieran Jameson, who received the Donegan Memorial Trophy for his years of devotion to offshore sailing spanning a career which includes an extraordinary fifteen consecutive Fastnet Races, nine consecutive Round Ireland Races, one Middle Sea Race, one Sydney-Hobart, one Round Britain and Ireland Race, one ARC and a string of other offshore racing events including regular and unrivalled participation in ISORA events.

Kieran’s experience is probably not news to many HYC members, but this recognition records a significant lifetime of racing in some of the world’s most presigious and difficult offshore events. He joined with fellow ‘Howthies’ and ICC member John Gore-Grimes on a trip to the Artic in 2000 (and swam in -0.5 degrees Celcius at a latitude of 80°44’49”). He has also cruised extensively in warmer waters and regularly sails the Mediterranean and Carribean with his friends.

Rumour has it that Kieran and team on his Sigma 38 'Changeling' will be joining the 'Non-Spinnaker' Class for club racing this year and that there may be a plan for more distant offshore pursuits in 2016....
