Howth Yachts Score Across Classes at NYC Regatta

18 June 2026

Howth Yacht Club boats featured strongly at the National Yacht Club Regatta last weekend, each delivering standout performances in their respective classes.

Michael and Richard Evans's The Big Picture (pictured above at the Lambay races 2026, alongside Indian) dominated Cruiser 0 IRC, taking two race wins to secure overall victory in style. In a competitive six-boat fleet, the J112 proved untouchable, winning both races by comfortable time-corrected margins.

In Cruiser 1, Simon Knowles’ J109 Indian was consistently in the mix, finishing third overall in IRC after an impressive day's racing. Indian also claimed overall honours in the Echo division with a first and second place, underlining the boat's versatility.

Class 2 saw an excellent turnout of J Boats from Howth, with Stephen Quinn’s Lambay Rules, Colin and Kathy Kavanagh’s Jeneral Lee, and Ian Martin and Stephen Mullaney’s Insider Again all making the trip to Dun Laoghaire.

Race One delivered a clean sweep for the Howth contingent, with Jeneral Lee taking the win ahead of Insider Again and Lambay Rules. In Race Two, Jeneral Lee and Insider Again were locked in a close battle, with Insider Again edging ahead at the finish to claim overall victory on countback.

The Insider Again team, having only recently acquired the J/92 and completed a major refit, were delighted to be competing at the front of the fleet so soon. The J/92 marks a significant step up in performance from their previous Sigma 33 and this is a promising start.

Meanwhile, Chronos continued to make her mark in its first summer racing, helmed by Declan Byrne. The newly Howth-based Quarter Tonner secured overall victory in Echo on countback after a closely fought duel with Imprint and completed a clean sweep of the IRC division with two race wins. Another strong event for the new addition to our marina.
