HYC Club Racing in T minus 3!
With only three weeks until the 2024 Club Racing season begins for keelboats and dinghies, HYC members have been busy with sandpaper, varnish and gelcoat cleaner. Hardware shops report panic buying of masking tape!
For the One-Design Keelboats (Seventeen Footers, Puppeteer 22s and Squibs), racing kicks off on Tuesday 23rd April. At the sailors' request, your Sailing Committee has been working on updating the East Pier course card to give a few more racetrack options.
Classes 1, 2, 3 and Non-Spinnaker launch their season on Wednesday 24th April.
Saturday 27th April is the Spring Warmer and Classes 1, 2 and 3 will be racing around short and snappy courses with on-the-water coaching and post-racing video analysis from Barry Hayes from McWilliam and Kenny Rumball. What better way to ramp up to a busy season for those fleets? Enter the Spring Warmer today!
Dinghies take to the water again on Thursday 25th April after only a few weeks’ break. 2024 sees the Melges 15 fleet coming to HYC and that first start line is going to be something special. Other classes will have increased representation with RS Aero and ILCA fleet numbers on the rise.
The HYC Crewfinder App is to be relaunched and our Sailing Development Officer, Matthew Cotter, will be explaining it at this week’s Class Captains’ meeting. There are many new and not-so-new members looking to get on board your boats. Get in touch with Matthew to match your boat with a sailor! [email protected].
And don’t forget to attend the talking series “Countdown to Club Racing” with deep dives into techniques, sails, rules and much more…
