Try Sailing

Try Sailing at Howth Yacht Club

Visiting Howth is the perfect opportunity to experience sailing on Dublin Bay. Our Try Sailing courses are designed to give visitors a relaxed and enjoyable introduction to being on the water, with no previous sailing experience required.

You will sail aboard a 26-foot J80 keelboat — a stable, safe, and responsive boat that is ideal for beginners. With a qualified instructor on board and up to three other participants, you’ll depart from Howth Harbour and spend time sailing along the coastline around the Howth peninsula.

Each session lasts approximately three hours and is designed to be informal and hands-on. If you wish, you can take the helm, help trim the sails, and work together as part of the crew, or simply enjoy the experience and views from the water. After your sail, you are welcome to relax with a drink or a meal in Howth Yacht Club.

All required safety equipment is provided, including waterproofs and a lifejacket. We recommend dressing warmly and wearing non-slip shoes (please note, black-soled shoes are not permitted). You may also wish to bring a hat, sunglasses, sun cream, and a small bottle of water.
