J24 Nationals joins the long list of cancelled events
Following consideration of the implications of the recently updated Government guidelines issued on 18th August, Howth Yacht Club and the Irish J24 Class Association have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Class National Championships that was scheduled to take place in Howth over the weekend of the 4th September.
As this event was the only remaining chance for the Irish J24 sailors to race together in 2020, this decision was not taken lightly. The J24 Class is renowned for its very competitive racing and crews also thoroughly enjoy the après-sail events that accompany its regattas. Whilst the Class and HYC are confident that racing could be help within the parameters laid down by the Irish Government and public health advice, it would not be possible to deliver the planned onshore activities in a socially responsible manner and in compliance with the updated COVID19 mitigation measures.
Howth Yacht Club would like to thank the management of the Irish J24 Class for their assistance and co-operation in organising the event and look forward to being able to continue this longstanding association, with the hope to be able to work together for another event at the earliest opportunity.
