125 Year Anniversary Flags Finally Get to Fly
Last Saturday fair winds were evident as the Howth Cruising Group Armada of 15 yachts of all types, with a colourful display of 125th Anniversary battle flags waving, invaded the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire at the invitation of the NYC Commodore. This was an annual event for the Howth Cruising Group and meant a lot to its members as they were treated to their first visiting Club Breakfast Brunch meal since March 2020. The Brunch was prepared for the Cruising Group in the NYC main dining room and tables were allocated by family group and per visiting yacht. Several yachts kindly cooked their own breakfasts on board their yachts in order for the Cruising Group to fulfil their 50 number max allocation and separation in the dining room. Admiral Gerry O'Neill who was the main planner of the event, awarded the Catering Manager tokens of our appreciation to herself, Tim O'Brien (outgoing NYC Manager) and the NYC Commodore. Gerry O'Neill was awarded an Ornithology Trophy by Pat Murphy on behalf of the Cruising Group in appreciation of his organisational skills. The event was a huge success for our many varied colourful Howth Cruising Group fleet.
Gerry Sargent can be seen below proudly waving his specially commissioned flag for the event i.e. the flag insignia with three inverted Sargeant stripes (Chevrons) with sister Aileen and his son Dave Sargent on board his yacht "Pip". Photos of the event can be seen in the Gallery attached here.
A big thanks to all participating yachts and members for their support,
Willie Kearney
