The inaugural Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm regatta is taking place on 17 & 18 August at the National Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire. Around the country, women have been racing against each other for decades but this is the first time a regatta will be held at a national level. The Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm regatta is an opportunity for women to set a new goal and encourage a move from shore to boat, crew to helm or club event to regional event. Female helms currently stand out - let’s change that and encourage women to take the helm.
The event is open to PY Dinghies and Keelboats, from teens to seniors. Anyone can enter, but you must have a woman helm, and 50% of the crew must be women.
On Friday night Irish Sailing have organising a showing of the film “Maiden” – the story of Tracy Edwards’ record breaking Whitbread Round the World race with the first female crew. Angela Heath, the only Irish crew member, will join for a Q&A session, and you can sign up for tickets via the Irish Sailing website here: https://www.sailing.ie/Events/Irish-Sailing-Pathfinder-Women-at-the-Helm
