Ronans divide the Laser spoils
Seventeen Laser sailors took to the water on Sunday for their Frostbite races. The wind ranged from 4 knots to 19 knots from the south west with heavy rain throughout but the sailors experienced warmer (milder) temperatures than the fleet has suffered since the Christmas break. Ronan Cull took the lead in the first race but was eventually passed by Ronan Wallace. After an intense duel on the final beat with countless tacks exchanged, Ronan Wallace held on to take the win.
The second race provided a variety of conditions, with the first beat providing a 'hunt the breeze' challenge before the wind built to a sturdy 19 knots with good planing on the reaches quickly stretching the muscles cramped by the earlier drifting conditions. Ronan Cull hit the front early and, despite Ronan Wallace's attempts to repeat his first race overtake, held on for a comfortable win. Honours even then, one race each but lots more chances for both still to come. Daniel Hopkins took both Radial wins, as did Dylan McEvoy in the 4.7s.
