HYC Optimist sailors travel to British Nationals

31 July 2015

Last week eight HYC sailors travelled to the Optimist British National Championships, which was hosted by Pwllheli Sailing Club in Wales. Ruth Lacy, Dylan McEvoy, Eve McMahon and Hugh Turvey travelled with the Irish U12 squad. They joined a fleet of 155 sailors in the junior fleet and all them successfully qualified for the gold fleet.

Eve McMahon revelled in the windy and big sea conditions and finished the regatta as 5th girl overall.  Harry Bell and Jamie McMahon were Howth’s representatives in the Senior Fleet. Both made the cut and qualified for the gold fleet and finished in 41st and 48th place respectively in this very competitive and internationally attended fleet.

Alice Lacy and Luke Turvey sailed in the transition fleet. Luke’s great string of 6 wins secured him 2nd place overall and 1st 10 year old.

Well done to them all.
