Howth Yacht Club is delighted to announce that it has accepted an invitation to field a team for the 2027 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup.

 

The New York YC extends invitations for the 20 available places to selected clubs from across North America and around the world for this biennial regatta, widely regarded as one of the most competitive amateur-only keelboat events on the calendar. This will be the fourth time Howth YC has been invited to compete, having previously been represented by teams led by Darren Wright (twice) and David Maguire, who acquitted themselves with competitive results of 11th and 12th in the last two editions. We're hopeful that Howth will fly its burgee high again in 2027 and can build on these results.

 

 

The regatta takes place in Newport, Rhode Island, sailed in NYYC's own fleet of one-design IC37s, a Mark Mills design, with each competing team chartering a boat from the Club's fleet. The 2027 event runs from Saturday, September 11th to September 18th, with mandatory practice on September 12th–13th and racing over five days from September 14th to 18th.

 

Crew numbers on each boat are limited by a combined weight cap of 686kg, and there are further eligibility requirements covering nationality, World Sailing categorisation (Group 1 amateur status), gender mix, and membership of the club being represented.

 

The team representing Howth YC will be responsible for covering the entry fee, damage deposit, and their own attendance costs, including flights and accommodation. Full details, including the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, are available on the event website.

Expressions of interest must be received no later than midnight on Monday 14th September 2026. Should more than one expression of interest be received, a meeting with the interested parties will be convened to agree a selection process.
