Double Silver for HYC Sailors

Huge congratulations to Ireland and Howth Yacht Club sailors Eve McMahon and Robert Dickson who claimed double silver medals at French Olympic Week, the second Sailing Grand Slam which took place in Hyères last week.

Double Olympian 49'ers Dickson and Seán Waddilove (Skerries Sailing Club) sailed their Final Series, consisting of two races, recording a second-place and a fifth-place finish. They finished the races ahead of both China and France, whom they had been battling all week for the top positions.

Zaiding Wen and Tian Liu from China were impossible to catch taking gold but the race for silver between Ireland and France was tight. Dickson and Waddilove took the silver spot with the French pair of Erwan Fischer and Clément Péquin relegated to bronze.

The women’s dinghy was a full-on battle for gold between Ireland and the USA with just one point between them. The first race of the series saw our very own Eve McMahon finish third to Charlotte Rose (USA) in second, with the final race a showdown between the two.

This is McMahon’s second medal of this Sailing Grand Slam Series after her recent gold performance in Palma at the Princess Sofia Regatta.

In the ILCA 7 Silver Fleet HYC's Ewan McMahon made the most of the week, finishing third with Finn Lynch (National YC) taking first.  Well done to all.

Next up for the 49ers is the World Championships in Quiberon in France from 12–17 May.

The ILCA sailors will take a short break before the European Championships in Croatia from 17–22 May.
