Brass Monkey Final Day Prizegiving & NYD Reminder
The final racing day of the Brass Monkeys Winter Series on 13th Dec was featured last week but we want to share more of the prizegiving, acknowledgements, and remind everyone about what's coming up next. 
 
The anticipated strong winds forecast on the 13th failed to materialise, resulting in the loss of the second race of the day. This was unusual for the time of year and perhaps something we need to reflect on going forward — possibly looking at scheduling second races on days more suited to them. It’s certainly something that warrants consideration.
 
Our prize-giving lunch was extremely well attended, with over one hundred members seated. We were delighted to welcome our new sponsors, Tadg and Gaye Riordan, and Tadg addressed the gathering with some very kind words. We were also pleased to welcome Commodore Kevin Monks, who spoke about the long-term future of the Brass Monkey event.
 
John and Jenny Aunger, our long-standing Brass Monkey Restaurant sponsors, were unable to attend on the day but their Brass Monkey prizes were very well received, as always.
 
The running of this event would not be possible without the dedication and support of our many volunteers and club staff. Our sincere thanks go to Mike Head, Derek Bothwell, Scori Walls, Paddy Judge, Judith, Michael, and Robert Kennedy — who was unwell and to whom we wish a speedy recovery. A special word of thanks goes to Gordon Knaggs, who is out there every week.
 
Thanks also to our Marina staff, particularly Emma and Lorraine, the Office staff, and Ian Byrne in particular. All work tirelessly under the leadership of Aideen and Fred. We are also very grateful to our RIB crews for their continued support.
 
We would like to thank the Restaurant team, with Marius front of house, for an excellent meal, and the bar staff, led by George, for their service on the day.

The next race takes place on New Year’s Day. Commodore Kevin has kindly promised to sponsor the prizes, with all proceeds going to the RNLI.
