Autumn League Returns – Bigger, Better, and backed by sponsor Fingal Council Council
The highly anticipated Autumn League at Howth Yacht Club makes its return this month, promising six action-packed Saturdays of top-class keelboat racing, kicking off on Saturday, 13 September and running through to Saturday, 18 October 2025.
Now a legendary end-of-season tradition, the Autumn League is set to be even more exciting this year thanks to the generous support of Fingal County Council, and some significant enhancements to the format.
This year, the racing schedule expands to nine races, a step up from six races last year, offering sailors more opportunities to test their skills in one of Ireland’s most scenic and competitive sailing venues.
In another change for 2025, first gun will be at 2:00 PM each Saturday—an adjusted start time based on feedback from participants, aiming to strike the ideal balance for competitors.
A notable innovation for this year is the trial introduction of ORC results for all classes, subject to sufficient certificate holders per class. This marks the first time ORC handicap scoring will be run in an Autumn League at Howth, expanding on the club’s commitment to fair and progressive racing formats.
Commenting on the league, HYC Vice Commodore Gary Cullen said:
“The Autumn League is always a highlight of the Howth racing calendar. With more races, a better start time, and the new ORC trial, we’re making it more exciting and accessible than ever. Most of all, it’s about great sailing and great fun for our members and visitors alike.”
Expect a vibrant scene on and off the water, with large turnouts, friendly rivalry, and the unbeatable atmosphere and hospitality that Howth Yacht Club is known for. As always, the event welcomes boats across all keelboat classes and is expected to draw strong fleets from across the region.
