Sigma 33 Offshore One-Design Championships This Weekend

Howth Yacht Club is proud to host the Sigma 33 Offshore One-Design Championships this weekend as the fleet has started to gather for registration and racing from Thursday to Sunday.  This marks the first time this event has been held in the south of Ireland since 2018, and the first time ever at HYC.

This eagerly anticipated regatta will welcome a fleet of Sigma 33s from across the UK and Ireland, with entries confirmed from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the south of England, alongside Irish representation from Dublin and Waterford.

Over the course of four days, competitors will take to the waters off Howth for up to 12 races, with Scorie Walls serving as Race Officer. Walls brings her race management expertise and is aiming to deliver a top-tier championship that showcases the skill and competitiveness of this enduring one-design class.

“We’re delighted to welcome the Sigma 33 class to Howth for the first time,” said Kevin Monks, Commodore of Howth Yacht Club. “This is a significant event for our club, and we look forward to delivering world-class racing and warm Irish hospitality for visiting sailors and supporters.”

Beyond the racing, HYC will be hosting a range of off-the-water social activities over the weekend. Members, guests and visiting crews are invited to enjoy the club’s hospitality, with live music on Friday and Saturday nights, food and drink specials, and a welcoming atmosphere for all.

The Sigma 33 Class Association and Howth Yacht Club also extend their thanks to Fingal County Council, for their support in bringing this sailing event to the region.
