One-design Tuesday

Sixteen Puppeteers and seven Squibs turned out for Tuesday night’s One Design Racing, enjoying some of the best sailing conditions of the season so far. A steady southeast breeze in the moderate to strong range, paired with a flooding tide, provided near-perfect conditions for competitive racing on the water.

Both fleets got away cleanly on well-laid committee boat starts, with no recalls and disciplined line handling across the board. Challenging round-the-cans courses of approximately 8 nautical miles for the Puppeteers and 7 for the Squibs, allowing for tactical variety and rewarding boat handling throughout.

The consistent breeze made for fast racing, with the first Puppeteers home in around 1 hour and 30 minutes, and the leading Squibs finishing in just under 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Strong performances were seen across both fleets, with experienced crews making the most of the conditions while some newer pairings showed impressive pace and promise.

Thanks go to the race management team afloat and ashore for delivering another top-class evening of racing, and to all competitors for contributing to a great atmosphere both on and off the water.

Next Tuesday promises more action as the One Design series continues.
