Howth 17 Special Race Day
A Celebration of Tradition and Community
On Saturday, 7th June, the iconic Howth 17 Class, Ireland’s oldest one-design racing class will host a Special Day of Racing unlike any other, reviving historic races that haven’t been sailed in over a decade.
This unique event will feature three races, starting at 11:00 AM from the East Pier:
- Under 30s Race – Aimed at encouraging and inspiring the next generation of sailors to join the class, this race puts the spotlight on helms under the age of 30. It’s all about tradition meeting the future.
- The HOGG Race – A short Olympic-style course celebrating the heritage of the class, showcasing the timeless elegance and skill of Howth 17 sailing.
- The BALLOT Race – A quirky and much-loved tradition returns! In this race, helms will swap boats, with each owner racing another’s vessel. The challenge? Succeed on your first attempt and sail back to the moorings with style and honour.
All races will start and finish off the East Pier starters hut, with great viewing opportunities for spectators as the boats race through Howth sound.
After sailing, join us at Howth Yacht Club for a Family BBQ and Live Music (2-5PM) celebrating community, heritage, and the enduring spirit of the Howth 17s. We’ll finish the day with prize-giving and stories from the day on the water.
Don't miss this chance to witness and be part of living sailing history!
