Club Racing weekly round-up | 23 May 2025

One-design Tuesday
A fleet of 13 Puppeteers lined up for Tuesday evening’s One Design "round the cans" racing, with a consistent 8–10 knot breeze from the South East setting the stage. As the race progressed, the wind proved anything but predictable. Shifts began to roll through the course, keeping racers on their toes.
After six legs, the course was shortened as the breeze swung around to the North. Despite the shifting conditions, the Puppeteer fleet delivered close and competitive racing throughout.
Thanks to all the sailors who turned out!
Note for Tuesday 27th: One Design starts 30 minutes later with low tide.

Keelboat Wednesday
There was no racing on Wednesday with lack of wind and will be no racing next Wednesday 28th.
Dinghy Thursday
A fleet of 11 adult dinghies took to the water for an evening of light wind racing, with conditions favouring the slower displacement boats. The east wind, coupled with a strong ebb tide, made for a tricky start, pushing boats towards — and in some cases over — the line. Alan Carr mastered the conditions, securing two race wins ahead of fellow IDRA 14 sailor Ryan Cairns.
The Junior fleet returned in force with 15 Optimists and a lone Topper, eager to put their race briefing from coaches Matthew and Will into practice. Their focus: cross the start line within 15 seconds of the Go gun. A strong committee boat bias and short upwind leg made for a congested and competitive start, with plenty of close racing around the marks and downwind.
A great evening of racing all round – well done to everyone who took part! Looking forward to seeing you all next week.
