Our community rallied for Darkness Into Light 2025

In a moving display of solidarity and community spirit, club members came together in the early hours of Saturday morning, 10 May, to take part in our annual Darkness Into Light parade of sail, in support of Pieta House.

Over 150 participants took part in this year’s event, setting off before sunrise to symbolise hope, supporting mental health and suicide prevention. The afloat fleet, made up of 31 vessels of all sizes from yachts, motorboats, ribs, ferries, and paddle boards, was joined ashore by 17 rowers and 12 walkers. The event was also supported in person by key emergency services, with members of both Howth RNLI and Howth Coast Guard launching their boats.

Commodore Kevin Monks praised the turnout:
This event highlights the very best of our community. To see sailors, paddle boarders, rowers, walkers, and our emergency services unite for such an important cause is a powerful reminder that we’re stronger together.

As the fleet of yachts moved out into the bay under the red glow of the dawn, the sense of unity was unmistakable. Participants were encouraged to dedicate their journeys to loved ones or to take a moment of peace as the sun rose over the Irish Sea.

Funds raised by the initiative will go directly to Pieta House, a charity that provides free, accessible support to people affected by suicide and self-harm. So far, our members have raised over €7000, as the total continues to grow. You can make a donation here.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to all who took part and those who helped organise or supported this initiative from ashore - our club volunteers and staff, Howth Adventures and Ireland’s Eye Ferries, and Crew Class. Plans are already underway to build on this success for Darkness Into Light 2026.

Together, we move from darkness into light.
