Squib Silverware and Feast
In celebration of a successful 2024 season, the HYC Squib sailors gathered in the Club to share stories, break bread together and dole out prizes and whoops and hollars.
Rear Commodore Jill Sommerville addressed the flock, thanking outgoing Class Captain Tom O'Reilly for his graft over the last two years and also welcoming Suzanne Barry who will take over the reins on the same day as someone else does similar in Washington D.C. It was noted that, although the Class may not be the biggest in HYC, it boxes above its weight in terms of volunteer input, represented by a number owners on the General and Membership Committees.
2024 HYC Squib successes included hosting a well-attending Irish Championship in August, leading out on Class-specific training and new members' days and welcoming some newbies to the fleet. Already for 2025, there are two new owners confirmed with another poorly camouflaged in longish grass.
The HYC boats travelled considerably (And with some tasty results) in 2024, notably to BALTIMORE, Belfast Lough and Dromineer. The 2025 season sees Howth again hosting the Easterns in September.
