Week Two of HYC Brass Monkey Winter Series Sees a Perfect Day at Sea
It was a perfect sailing Sunday with a westerly wind of approximately 10 knots at the start, followed by stronger winds throughout the race.
In these ideal conditions, 29 boats took to the water for the second week of the HYC Brass Monkeys. With the courses the same as last week, there was a familiar feel among sailors, along with a more competitive thrill. This atmosphere, combined with the mounting breeze, led to one premature starter in each fleet and kept the Race Committee, mastered by Scorie Walls, on their toes.
With an average race time of approximately 90 minutes, everyone appeared to have a fun day out and was happy to return to shore for a hot cuppa and the usual bunfight.
After Two Races…
In Class 1, Stephen Harris on Tiger (HYC) is on top thanks to this week’s win. Mary Ellen (HYC) is a very close runner-up with the same total and net score as the fleet leader, making her a powerful challenger for the leading spot in the upcoming races. Though Splashdance (HYC) dropped to third place this week, Andy George is certainly ready to make a splash in the upcoming weeks of the series.
In Class 2, with an outstanding start, HYC’s NYYC Development Team led by Darren Wright on J/80 is in the top spot overall. And it is an all-J/80 fight behind the leader, with David Cullen on Age Before Beauty (HYC) and Jonny Sargent & David Johnston on Fifty Shades of Spray (HYC) in second and third place, respectively.
In Class 3 NS, Jokers Wild (HYC) maintains the fleet lead with a fifth placement in this race, still banking on her win on the opening day. C’est La Vie (HYC) climbs to the runner-up spot, with the winner of the day, Thar Saile (HYC), in third place overall.
