HYC 2025 New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup Announcement
Howth Yacht Club is delighted to have been invited once again to send a team to compete for New York Yacht Club's prestigious Invitational Cup in 2025.
Invitations for the 20 available spaces are issued by the New York YC to selected clubs within North America and around the World for this bi-annual regatta, which is renowned as being one of the most competitive 'amateurs only' keelboat events.
The regatta is sailed at Newport, Rhode Island using NYYC's own fleet of one design IC37s, a Mark Mills design, with each team chartering one of the Club's fleet. The 2025 event will run from Saturday, September 6th through to September 13th.
Following a review by an HYC selection committee of proposals from Howth YC members to represent the Club, Darren Wright's proposal has been accepted. Darren is now tasked with assembling the crew who will compete at the event and his HYC 2025 campaign is seeking skilled and enthusiastic racing members to join the team.
The number of crew members is limited by the 686 kg weight limit, with additional requirements regarding nationality, World Sailing categorisation, gender mix, and membership of the represented club.
Managed and overseen by HYC's Ryan Scott and Shane Hughes from North Sails, the HYC 2025 Campaign will conduct initial try-out training sessions in HYC J/80s throughout October. Successful candidates will join the team for winter training on a Cape 31 in Italy, involving approximately eight to ten weekends.
The team will then compete in four or five Cape 31 events in the Mediterranean next spring and summer. These are 3-day events starting on Fridays, each with a training day on Thursdays.
The final training schedule includes two weekends on an IC37 (the NYYC event boat) in the UK, followed by one event in the USA before returning to Newport for the main event in early September, with an approximate two-week stay.

This intensive campaign is designed to achieve the best possible results in a world-class racing event. Successful candidates chosen after the initial 'try-outs' will be asked to commit both time and expense to the full training plan.
