Howth Yacht Club's Eve McMahon Clinches Second Consecutive ILCA 6 Under 21 World Championship

Howth Yacht Club is proud to announce that our very own Eve McMahon has once again claimed the title of ILCA 6 Under 21 World Champion.

The talented young sailor successfully defended her crown at the recent championships held in Viana Do Costello, Portugal. McMahon's victory was nothing short of spectacular, as she dominated the competition to finish an impressive 30 points ahead of her closest rivals, Evie Saunders of Australia and Ginevra Caracciolo Di Brienza of Italy.

Throughout the week-long event, Eve demonstrated exceptional skill and consistency, securing first place in five races despite challenging wind and tide conditions.

This latest triumph comes just eight months after McMahon's previous victory at the U21 World Championships in Tangier, Morocco, further cementing her status as one of the world's top sailors in the ILCA 6 class.

Eve's coach, Rory Fitzpatrick, praised her outstanding performance and adaptability, noting the significance of this win as she prepares for her Olympic debut. McMahon is set to represent Ireland at the Paris 2024 Olympics, competing in the ILCA 6 class in Marseille starting August 1st.

Neil Murphy, Commodore of Howth Yacht Club, expressed the club's pride in Eve's achievements:

"Eve continues to inspire us all with her dedication, skill, and remarkable success on the world stage. Her back-to-back world championship titles are a testament to her hard work and talent. We should also recognize the incredible support and commitment of Eve's family, who have been instrumental in her journey. Their unwavering dedication has played a crucial role in Eve's success."

This latest victory adds to an already impressive list of accomplishments for McMahon, including securing Ireland's Olympic berth in the Women's ILCA6 class earlier this year. At just 20 years old, Eve's journey from youth sailing to Olympic qualification and now holder of 5 world championship sailing titles showcases her exceptional abilities and bright future in the sport. As Eve McMahon continues her preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Howth Yacht Club and the entire Irish sailing community look forward to supporting her quest for Olympic glory. Her success serves as an inspiration to young sailors everywhere and highlights the strength of Irish sailing on the international stage.

As she prepares for the Olympics, Eve carries with her the support and admiration of everyone at Howth Yacht Club.
