The Gibney Classic is just two weeks away!
It's official -- two weeks from Saturday marks the 30th annual Gibney Classic!
What started in 1992 (with two years sacrificed to Covid) as a bit of friendly sailing fun between two Irish fishing villages has grown in size and stature, but has not lost the charm of its origin story. Read this interview with Barry Gibney, who explains how a new marina in Malahide 32 years ago opened the door for this now-classic race; HYC members began dropping in to Gibney's pub (while they were having work done on their boats in Malahide) in the late 1930s...Perhaps it was only a matter of time before the Gibneys found a way to marry the social and the sailing aspects of this special relationship!
The Gibney Classic is always scheduled to coincide with a favourable tide, and this year's competition is no different. Join the fun on 13 July 2024 for the Gibney Classic -- we can't wait to see you there!
