Sienna Wright: A Rising Star in the World Youth Sailing

In the ultra competitive ILCA 6 class, a new star is on the rise. Sienna Wright, a talented junior sailor from Howth Yacht Club, has recently made waves at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Her remarkable performance not only earned her a silver medal in the Women's division but also the prestigious ILCA 6 Under 17 world title.

This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it comes just a month after her bronze medal victory at the Youth Sailing World Championships in Brazil.

A Stellar Performance in Argentina:

Sienna's journey at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships was nothing short of spectacular.

Competing against a fleet of skilled sailors, she showcased her prowess and determination. According to Afloat Magazine, Sienna maintained a consistent performance throughout the event, culminating in a well-deserved second place on the winner's podium. Her success in Argentina is a testament to her skill, dedication, and the promising future that lies ahead.

Consistent Results:

Sienna entered the final day of the championship in second place but still had to negotiate a shifty and challenging 8 to 12 knots south wind. However her three race wins, including a standout performance on the penultimate day, where she one the first race, were crucial in securing her overall position. Despite a setback in race six, Sienna kept her eye on the prize, earning her the silver medal and the Under 17 title. She remarked after the event: "It was a very demanding championship physically and mentally, but I'm very happy with the result - lots of mistakes so lots to learn from". She also paid respect to her coach and congratulated her 2 Italian 'friends' who joined her on the podium, "the biggest thanks to Joaquim Coutinho for absolutely everything and also to everyone who supported me along the way".

Recognition and Future Prospects:

Sienna's achievements have not gone unnoticed. Irish Sailing highlighted her potential, especially considering her young age of 15. Her performance in Argentina, characterised by consistency and top finishes, underlines her potential for future success at the youth level and beyond. With eyes set on a senior career and possibly even the Los Angeles Olympics, Sienna Wright is a name to watch in the ILCA 6 Class.

Congrats Sienna!
