National 18s test HYC sailors' skills

14 November 2015

The National 18 Class visited Howth last weekend to showcase the lastest incarnation of the 85-year-old class. With a crew of three, this version is truly state-of-the-art: Spacious cockpit, fully controllable rig, a hull which planes to windward and a new one-design sail plan to come over the Winter.

Six boats journeyed up from the 18s' traditional Irish home county, Cork, with a view to attracting the Capital's sailing blood. Forecasts that had predicted some nasty, wet weather turned out to be accurate enough. The little and light  wind light changed to a steady 12-15 kts and some blue skies. A few fun races and a blast beam reach back from the Island Mark to the Harbour topped off a great day. HYC sailors Conor Turvey and Simon Revill demonstrated some hidden talents during the day!
