Brass Monkeys and Laser Frostbites deferred

The adoption of COVID Level 5 restrictions from midnight on October 21st has forced a deferral of plans to start the HYC Brass Monkeys and Laser Frostbite series on November 8th.

Once Level 3 or above of the 'Plan for Living with COVID-19' is invoked by the Government, the provisions forbid competitive sailing.  Howth YC is therefore unable to commence the two events until either a return to Level 2 is confirmed or the Government adjusts the restrictions associated with the various Levels.  Attempts are being made to persuade the authorities that the risk profile for sailboat racing is low enough to allow it to continue with appropriate safeguards in place, so far without success.

The current Level 5 status allows leisure sailing continue, both by single-handers and by 'same household' multi- handed boats and Howth YC remains open for members wishing to get afloat.

Level 5 also permits the training and coaching of children of school-going age to take place and both Laser and Optimist training sessions are currently underway at HYC at the weekends.

The  Club is very aware of the enjoyment that the Brass Monkeys and Frostbites provides for members and visitors.  The camaraderie and post racing refreshments are highlights of both and Howth YC will push to get the respective fleets afloat as soon as is feasible.

Further information will be provided when there is an update about the relaxation of the current restrictions.
